Improved Welsh recycling figures show that ambition can produce results say WESA

The Welsh Environmental Services Association (WESA), the voice for the Welsh resource and waste management industry, today welcomed the announcement of the new Welsh recycling figures for the first quarter of 2015.

WESA’s Recycling Policy Advisor, Jakob Rindegren, said:

The recycling figures announced today for Wales shows an impressive increase from 54% to 56%, with 20 of 22 local authorities meeting the current statutory target of 52%. At the same time waste arisings in Wales decreased by 5% compared to the same quarter (Jan to Mar) last year.

The figures really demonstrate to the whole of the UK what is possible when a Government combines a set of clear ambitious targets with an active, hands-on approach to seeing these targets met.

WESA’s members will continue to work closely with their local authority partners to make sure that the positive development continues.”
