We are Skip Hire & Waste Magazine – here to help bring together the recycling, skip hire and waste management communities via our monthly magazine and electronic platforms loved by thousands of readers.
Skip Hire & Waste Magazine began way back in the summer of 2005 as a tiny publication, which we thought might well be useful to the industry. It started off in humble fashion, and as years went by, it grew into what it is today.
In the early days, it was conceived as a publication sent out to skip hire yards. It was given a thumbs up by drivers, picking station workers, office staff and senior management – the whole company.
Then it was ever so subtly called ‘The Skip’ (there’s a real surprise) and went out to just a few hundred companies.
Fast forward to today, and we have created a veritable monster. The Skip was creatively (!) rebranded Skip Hire Magazine, and now we boast of distributing to a database of over 4,000 companies. Our monthly tone has got a whole lot glossier, a whole lot bigger, and a whole lot better.
We get invited to every industry show and exhibition in the UK, and are greeted like old friends by people in the industry from John O’Groats to Lands’ End. We are even very welcome in Wales too!
The people we deal with are like us, and guess what? We genuinely like them too, like an old pair of comfortable slippers.
Nowadays we are a highly professional outfit, made up of top-notch editorial and advertising gurus, who spend every hour of the day working on your behalf. Well, maybe not every hour – that was a bit of a slight exaggeration.
Joking aside, we have come on leaps and bounds since our inception, and since 2014 have fronted the annual WASTE show which attracts hundreds of companies and thousands of visitors from all over the UK. Not bad for a throwaway magazine with such modest beginnings, we are sure you will agree.
Where will we be in a decade, we hear many of you ask? Well, with the explosion of waste and recycling companies up and down the country in recent years, there are still markets to conquer and new people to meet.
In an ever-changing industry, we aim to reflect the difficulties of doing business in the 21st century, and can promise our future readers an ever-changing kaleidoscope of cutting-edge material.
The trick will be to balance our technical-savvy readers online, with our dyed-in-the-wool old-schoolers who think online refers to their washing being hung up to dry.
Which means in simple terms, that while we will be developing our online and social media presence, we won’t ever be forgetting many of our readers still want to get their mitts on a magazine.
The magazine is published by PAL Media, a division of PAL (Perfect Associates Limited) in leafy Cheshire.
