Sortera launches in the UK

The Swedish-owned company officially arrives in the UK, following its acquisition of GBN Services & O’Donovan Waste Management

Sortera officially launched in the UK yesterday (3rd June), as GBN Services and O’Donovan’s Waste Management formally merged following Sortera’s acquisition of the two London-based companies last year. The merger sees Sortera assume responsibility for six existing sites – Rochford, Harlow, Edmonton, Uxbridge, Tottenham and Wembley – previously owned and operated by GBN and O’Donovan’s, respectively, as well as close to 400 members of staff.

Sortera’s entry into the UK market follows its resounding success in providing quality waste management solutions in the Nordics. With an unwavering dedication to environmental sustainability and technological advancement, Sortera aims to spearhead transformative changes within the UK construction, recycling, and waste management sectors.

Mark McCleery, UK Managing Director of Sortera, expressed his enthusiasm about the company’s expansion into the UK, stating: “We are thrilled to introduce Sortera’s innovative approach to waste management to the UK market. By integrating the expertise of GBN Services and O’Donovan Waste Management and implementing the values that have made Sortera so successful in the Nordics, we’re excited to bring the kind of innovative digital solutions, international sustainability insights and operational excellence that address the evolving needs of the construction, recycling, and waste management industries.

“There has been a huge team effort over the last few months to get us to this moment, and we can’t wait to hit the ground running now that we are officially Sortera.”

Sortera’s comprehensive suite of services encompasses waste collection, recycling, and resource recovery, with a strong emphasis on maximising efficiency and minimising environmental impact. Through advanced technologies and strategic partnerships, Sortera aims to streamline operations, reduce waste generation, and promote circular economy principles across the UK.

The acquisition of GBN Services and O’Donovan Waste Management represents a significant milestone in Sortera’s expansion strategy, further solidifying its position as a global leader in sustainable waste management solutions. Sortera looks forward to forging enduring partnerships and driving positive change within the UK construction, recycling, and waste management sectors.
