Take the ‘whiskers of waste’ challenge

SKIP Hire & Waste magazine is issuing a challenge to all readers: to take part in Movember 2022, – the annual charity event to support men’s health by growing a moustache for the month of November – and show the world the whiskers of the waste industry.

Movember is the leading charity changing the face of men’s health on a global scale. It focusses particularly on mental health and suicide prevention, as well as prostate and testicular cancer.

The charity has targeted themselves with reducing the number of men dying prematurely by 25%, halving the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer, and reducing the number of men taking their own lives by 25%.

Three in four suicides in the UK are by men, and it is the leading cause of death among men aged 20-34 in England and Wales. Social support is crucial in helping people who are struggling with mental health.

Meanwhile, knowing the signs of cancer is vital, as early detection is an enormous factor in the success rate of treatment.

To support this, Movember funds men’s health projects across 23 countries. Many of these are aimed at improving the quality of life of men living with prostate and testicular cancers, as well as funding mental health programmes.

For the past 18 years, they have been running a campaign encouraging members of the public to fundraise and raise awareness by growing a moustache (or ‘mo’). Other fundraising activities suggested by the charity include running 60 km, hosting a fundraising event or creating your own epic challenge.

Organisers of the Movember movement claim that five million moustaches have been grown in support since the start of their first campaign in 2003 – raising £598million and funding over 1,250 initiatives.

But we are also throwing down the gauntlet and challenging YOU to join in, and show the world the whiskers of waste!

So, this November, think of your bros: grow a mo, and let us know! Send us your photos, progress reports and stories to editor@skiphiremagazine.co.uk
