Great Scott! Skip Hunk Euan is going back to the… past

HE’S a real romantic with an 80’s tune in his heart. Meet our October Skip Hunk Euan Barker from Ron Hull Group.

Well hi. Who do we have here?
I’m Euan Barker, 21 and I’m the Weighbridge Operator at Ron Hull Group Ltd, Rotherham.

Good to meet you. And how long have you been there?
Six months, although I originally started in 2018 for about a year as an apprentice before taking a break from the scrap industry. Day to day, I work on the weighbridge as well as admin duties, from outwards reports to filing tickets away.
All are important.

What’s the best thing about working there?
Everyone is treated like family where we all have great banter and each day is different; you never know what to expect. You get to know the directors on a personal level and I know some places you don’t get that opportunity – its nice that they also get involved and have a laugh.

We hope for your sake they’re reading this, that’ll be a brownie point for your next review. What’s the one day at work you’ll never forget?
Back when I was an apprentice, one of the skip drivers and the managing director thought it’d be funny to drag me out of the weighbridge window. I’ve got to say, it still makes me laugh now.

What a windowsill-y prank. Where will we find you when the working day is over?
Outside of work I pretty much spend my time with my partner; we’re glued at the hip. But on the odd day that we’re not, I either play golf or catch up on missed sleep.

What does she do to get you so tired? Maybe we’d better not ask… How about some superpowers?
I would love to travel back in time to see what the world was like back in the 80’s. It’s one of my favourite music decades.

Same! We could listen to Kylie and Jason all day long. Speaking of which, what song really sums you up?
Late Night Talking by Harry Styles. It’s funky and different to most of the music that’s released nowadays.

It’s certainly a banger. Now, share with us something interesting about yourself.
I moved in with my girlfriend after being with her for a week and we’re still going three years later.

Wow, you crazy kids move fast! Sum yourself up in three little words.
Weird, fun and outgoing.

Speaking of outgoing, where in the world would you love to go for a nice getaway?
I would love to go to the Maldives; a hut with a slide straight into the sea.

Quite an upgrade from the pool slides you’d find at Butlins. Before you go, who would be your ideal dinner guest?
I would invite Freddie Flintoff; a great cricketer, who played for England. He’s a great role model who has many achievements. He went from cricket to now presenting the world’s biggest car show, Top Gear. It just shows you can achieve anything if you push for it.

Words to live by! But have you ever met anyone famous in real life?
I met the Beast from The Chase while having lunch.

Was he on a dinner date with Belle, by any chance? Nevermind. When your lottery numbers come up, what are you going to buy?
Straight away I would buy a brand new car – I wouldn’t even think twice.

A DeLorean to take you to the 80’s, perhaps? Now, before you go, make us laugh…
Some people eat snails: they must not like fast food!

That’s a cracker! All that remains is to say thanks for being a super Skip Hunk!
