HE got us hot under the collar in July, now John Pesci, 26, Sales Executive at AMA Waste of King’s Lynn, is our superstar Skip Hunk of the Year!
Hi again John, and a huge congratulations for winning the most coveted title in the entire waste sector. How does it feel to be Skip Hunk of the Year?
It’s incredible, going straight on my email signature and all over social media. If I get a similar reaction from customers to this as I did when I was Skip Hunk of the Month, I’m going to need an assistant.
Rewind to July, when it was all about Euro 2020 and England reaching the final (let’s just not mention the final score) and a certain Mr Pesci was our Skip Hunk of the Month. How was it for you?
I was actually quite surprised. Some customers even started using AMA more because it is home of the infamous Skip Hunk.
We’re not surprised – it is an incredible honour, after all. Now you’ve topped that by becoming our Skip Hunk 2021, will your workmates be able to cope with all the attention?
Not by the time I’ve finished reminding them they’re in the presence of a national treasure. I will be reminding them every hour on the hour.
To all at AMA Waste, we feel your pain. Reflecting on the past year – apart from this, of course – what has really lifted your spirits and made you smile?
The re-opening of snooker clubs has really helped my mental health. Being able to get away to play golf with mates was a particular highlight.
And how about at work? What has given you and your workmates a bit of a boost?
The team we have at AMA truly is remarkable. I’ve never seen so many smiling faces through such challenging and unprecedented times. (Hopefully they won’t see this bit.)
Oh, we reckon they will – and well done to them all for soldiering on. Looking forward to 2022, what are you most looking forward to?
I’ve got a boys’ holiday booked in March which hopefully will still happen.
Our fingers are crossed. What’s the one word that you’d use to sum up the past year?
Idiosyncratic.
Easy for you to say. And what’s your biggest hope for 2022?
No more lockdowns!
We couldn’t agree more. Finally, what would you say to anyone who would like to be a Skip Hunk but hasn’t yet gone for it?
