Bury Skip Hire lads go for a skippy-dip

WHEN the sun’s out and there are empty skips at hand, there’s only one thing for it…

The lads from Bury Skip Hire cooled down on one of the hottest days of summer by turning one of their skips into a very unconventional swimming pool.

The go-ahead to turn on the hose and fill the empty container was given by the firm’s managing director, Sam Gribben, after he saw how hard the yard staff were working through the soaring temperatures.

Having figured the team needed a “quick cooling down”, the skip was duly filled – and in the lads went.

Of course, it was a case of ‘safety first’, and while some garments were certainly shed in the process of taking their dip, at least they kept on their hi-vis jackets.

Sam later told local paper, the Manchester Evening News, that the cooling dip was reward for working through scorching hot temperatures.

“It was my idea and the lads were more than up for it,” he said. “We have a fantastic, hard-working team and they definitely needed a quick cooling down working outside in these temperatures.”

One member of staff said: “The lads in the skip pool run our yard, they organise all the waste we bring in to ensure we can recycle as much as we possibly can. They are a great bunch of lads and extremely hard working.

“The weather has been so hot and they keep going with a quick dip in the pool or an ice cream or two!”
