SHE’S sweet as sugar and practically perfect. Our Skip Chick is Julie Watson from Lancashire-based Tom Martin & Co. Ltd.
Hello! Tell us about yourself.
I’m Julie Watson, aged 49 and I work at Tom Martin & Co Ltd in Preston, Lancashire. I’m in the Transport and Operations Department.
So how long has the business had the pleasure of your company?
I have worked for Tom Martin for four years in transport, but I previously worked here 20 years ago on reception.
Sounds like you just couldn’t stay away. What do you like about being there?
The best thing about working here is the people I work alongside. We spend so much of our life at work that being happy here is important to me.
So it sounds like you have a few laughs at work.
Every day! We have lots of weird moments, but one which stands out is walking in the office one morning to a full PA system and drum kit so we could have a day of karaoke.
You can’t work all of the time, so where will we find you when you’re not in the office?
Running and spending lots of time with my grandson… Oh, and watching my new big TV!
It’s all go! What do you do for laughs?
I am one of those crazy people who pumps the horn at strangers walking along the footpath to see if they wave back at me, then they are left wondering who it was that waved to them.
Let’s talk romance; what makes an ideal romantic night out?
It would be more of a romantic early morning, at 5am with breakfast watching the sunrise.
We’re not even going to ask what you were getting up to until 5am! Let’s sort you out with superpowers – what would you like?
I would love to have the ability to make myself invisible so I could be a fly on the wall.
Dig out the karaoke machine and let’s hear your theme tune. What is it?
Truly Scrumptious from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – the boss sings it to me all the time.
Aww… sweet! Fancy telling us a fascinating fact about yourself?
I am teaching myself to play the guitar. I’ve always wanted to play a musical instrument and if I stick with it, I’ll be really chuffed.
You’ll soon be able to ditch the karaoke and play your guitar instead! Now what three little words sum you up best?
I’m Mary Poppins. That’s because I’m practically perfect in every way!
Between Mary Poppins and Truly Scrumptious, we’re sensing a theme here! How about flying off on a fabulous holiday. Where to?
Aruba in the Caribbean to see the flamingos.
Imagine you could invite anyone to dinner. Who’s top of the guest list?
King Henry the VIII, so I could ask him what his problem was with women.
Might be best leaving that question for last or it’ll be a short meal. Lockdown and the pandemic have been rotten, what’s got you through it all?
The excitement of becoming a grandma and all the decorating; I’ve been through every room.
The house must be looking great though! Ever met anyone famous?
“Our Kirky” from Coronation Street.
Before we head off, tell us your best joke.
Why did the psychic chicken cross the road? Because it wanted to connect with the other side.
And with that, we’ll say thank you Julie for being a fantastic Skip Chick.
