DING Dong – the bells are ringing out for our glamorous Skip Chick of the Year, Carly Venn! Christmas cracker Carly, 35, was our September Skip Chick. She’s a company director at Bateman Skip Hire in Bristol – so beauty, brains and power all wrapped up in one delightful festive package.

Hey Carly – congratulations on becoming our first ever Skip Chick of the Year. Apart from cracking open the champagne and celebrating the honour that is Skip Chick 2016, how will you be spending the festive season?

I’ll be spending Christmas with lots of lovely family and friends. No carol singing, however I tend to get on the karaoke A LOT! And annoy everyone around!

We can’t imagine you being annoying at all. Where would you spend your ideal Christmas? Home or away?

Definitely home. We went to Egypt over Christmas once when my daughter was young, and the fact Father Christmas rode in on a camel, was just not the same!

How traumatic for all involved. It almost had us at Skip Hire Towers reaching for a stiff advocaat and lemonade from our grandmother’s secret stash just to calm our nerves. So what’s the best bit about Christmas for you?

Just spending time with my family is the best bet. We have a large family, and always gets together and just eat, drink and stay merry!

Extra advocaat for the Venn family coming through. And the worst bit?

The way Christmas falls this year means we won’t have a nice long break. It’s back to work straight away! L

Boo, hiss! Never mind, work pays for all that lovely food and drink – and there’s only so many karaoke versions of “Rocking around the Christmas Tree” one family can take. Tell us about your most memorable Christmas…

I can’t possibly choose, as I am a huge fan of the festive season and I love every bit of every one!

Perhaps easier to remember the most disappointing gift?

When I was younger, I opened every one of my presents when my mum was out of the house and wrapped them back up again. I was so disappointed on Christmas Day that my parents hadn’t got me anything I didn’t already know about. That’s just cruel isn’t it?

How thoughtless of them not to hide your presents properly! That could scar a child forever, and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Christmas party time – most fun ever?

My Auntie loves a glass of wine (maybe a few more!). One year we were messing around on someone’s new abdominal roller thingy and it happened like slow motion…she went forward to roll on it, she face planted the concrete floor, and smashed her teeth. We spent a while searching for them whilst trying not to wee ourselves laughing. Cruel I know, but oh so funny!

This is precisely the reason we at Skip Hire Towers tend to avoid all forms of exercise, and any kind of nasty keep fit equipment. Far. Too. Dangerous.  Assuming we could persuade them to risk a visit, who would you love to see drop in for Christmas dinner?

I reckon I could teach the Grinch to learn to love Christmas. Jim Carrey would be hysterical to have around on Christmas day.

And for dinner?  Turkey and all the trimmings on your table this year, or something else?

Beef – the rarer the better. Nope, I love it all!

We do enjoy a bit of beef at this time of year. Actually, we’re quite partial all year round. Now, who would you like to find under your mistletoe this Christmas?

Santa Claus of course!

Naturally. Moving on to New Year… what was last year’s resolution, and did you keep it?

Drink less red wine. Did I keep it? Never! I did try for a few hours though.

And for 2017?

Drink less red wine….I already know I’m going to fail miserably!

Apart from being our fabulous Skip Chick of the Year, what’s been the best bit about 2016… and the worst?

The best bit has been moving into our new offices after years of being crammed into a metal portacabin, either freezing cold or boiling hot! The worst bit has been all the stress it’s caused. Take me back to the cabin!

Finally, give us your best Christmas cracker joke.

Santa pulled a cracker on speed dating night! JTJ

Well Carly, you’ve been a cracking Skip Chick of the Year in 2016. May all your Christmas wishes come true – and no sneaky peeking at those presents!
