Norfolk-based waste management provider Norse Waste Solutions (a subsidiary of Norse Commercial Services) has equipped its fleet of RCVs with the ENVIROWEIGH bin-weigher from Vehicle Weighing Solutions Ltd (VWS) and tagged its bins with RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) chips to closely monitor collections and help its customers improve their recycling efficiency.
The RFID tags enable the bin-weighing system sensor to identify what is being collected and from whom. The data is then taken from the vehicle via SD card or can be transmitted over a telephone network and the files dropped into a report for environmental analysis. Organisations are able to determine the precise weight outputs for different areas or departments, as well as those with the best recycling rates.
The ENVIROWEIGH bin-weighing system is the only one designed and manufactured in the UK that is weights and measures approved, so Norse is also able to offer pay by weight services. The company collects dry mixed recyclables, food and glass, which are 100% recycled. Any black bag waste is taken through an RDF process, which recovers all but 10% to use as fuels for power generation. Customers include the University of East Anglia, Port of Felixstowe and the Norfolk County Council estate, which accounts for 168 buildings.
Ian Barnett, Norse Commercial Services said: “Having this kind of system means that our customers know exactly how much of their waste is being recycled so they can feed that information into their Environmental Management Systems for reporting. We are the only provider in the Norwich area to offer this level of service.”
The No 1 vehicle weighing supplier for many local authorities and private contractors in the UK, VWS design and manufacture their own load cells and weighing systems here in the UK.
Julian Glasspole, Managing Director, VWS ltd said: “The ENVIROWEIGH bin weigher is perfect for this kind of application as it offers an unrivalled level of reliability and accuracy. More and more organisations are required to provide environmental reporting and so bin-tag technology combined with weighing can provide a wealth of valuable waste management and recycling performance data, as well as helping operators provide a pay by weight service.”
